Thank you for your interest in running for an ASSP Officer position for the 2015-2016 school year! The current officer core is is excited to see a new season of student leadership begin to unfold.

This form serves as your application to run for office. Please read all sections closely to ensure you have all pieces of your application properly submitted. Applications are due Wednesday, March 11 by 4pm.

Please upload a document (.doc, .docx, or.txt) that includes your typewritten statement, answering the following questions:
1. Why are you campaigning for this position (150-200 words)
2. What unique skills and talents would you bring to this position? (200-300 words)
3. Describe three to four specific goals you would like to accomplish during your term. (400-500 words)

 

Statements will be published on the ASSP Website as a part of the election process. Candidates will have the opportunity to revise their statements before publication.

Candidacy Eligibility:

The following requirements apply to candidates for ASSP Officer positions. A candidate must:

1. Be a member of the ASSP (undergraduate student)
2. Have successfully completed at least 30 credits at SPU
3. Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 at declaration of candidacy
4. Be in good disciplinary standing with the University
5. Register for a minimum of 10 credits for the Spring Quarter of candidacy
6. Anticipate upper division academic standing at the beginning of term of office
7. Attend Leadership Conference before the start of Fall Quarter
8. Exhibit a lifestyle consistent with the institution's statement of faith, as found in the University Catalog under the section "Our Mission." The statement of faith can be found here.

Additional details:
1. All candidates must read and agree to the 2015 ASSP Elections Task Force Campaign Guidelines, found here. The last page of these guidelines must be printed, signed, and submitted to the ASSP office by 4pm on March 11.

2. All candidates must submit a $40.00 check deposit to the ASSP Office, made out to Seattle Pacific University, by 4pm on March 11, to ensure adherence to campaign guidelines. The full deposit, minus fines, will be returned one week after the general election.

3. All candidates must attend a mandatory candidate meeting on Friday, March 13, at 5pm in Weter 202. Absence from this meeting must be preapproved by the Elections Task Force (contact: ASSP-ExecVP@spu.edu).

2015 Election Timeline

March 11: Applications due via FormStack by 4pm. Deposit checks and signed guidelines due to ASSP Office by 4pm.
March 13: Mandatory candidate meeting; Weter 202, 5pm
March 30: Officer Campaigning Begins
April 8: Primary Elections
April 9: Senator Campaigning Begins
April 14: Candidate Open House; Weter Lounge, 7pm
April 15: General Election

By submitting this application, I declare I meet all candidacy requirements. I agree to allow Election Task Force members to contact University officials to confirm my candidacy eligibility. I also permit Election Task Force members to publish my written application and statements, with the exception of information protected by the Family Educational Rights and Protection Act (FERPA).
